Points in Focus Photography

Travel...

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did.

Traveling provides a great opportunity to explore new places, meet new people, and create images of things that simply aren't available at home.

The articles in this section are my attempt to talk about the places and the photography that I've been. I've tried to write these in a way to share not only my experiences and advice, but my thinking behind a that advice so that you can figure out how to best apply it to your own adventures.

Alaska

To the lover of wilderness, Alaska is one of the most wonderful countries in the world.

Alaska is a big place, with a wide range of landscapes and subjects. It might even be fair to say you could spend an entire lifetime there and still not see everything. However, as big as Alaska is, the vast majority of those that visit it see it from the desks of a cruise ship in a few days.

Currently, these articles focus on the gear needed for the opportunities available to those cruise ship goers.

America's SouthWest

The exact definition of what constitutes the American Southwest varies, but often its draw by state borders. However, for me, the Southwest is demarked by the arid regions that make up the Great Basic and Range and the Colorado Plateau. This includes most of Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico, as well as Eastern California, and western Colorado.

The area is characterized by arid landscapes and spectacular canyons, arches, bridges, and other rock formations.

Florida

Florida. The Sunshine State. While perhaps not as topographically exciting as the American Southwest, or Alaska, it's home to the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. The wetlands that make up the everglades and many other parts of central and southern Florida, also make it fantastic habitat for migrating birds.

Of course, there's also the palm trees, beaches, theme parks, and all the other trappings of the tourist industry.

Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons

Yellostone was America's first National Park, and for more than 100 years its been a refuge for wildlife, and adventures seeking to see the wilderness in its raw form. Ajoining Yellowstone National Park to the south are the iconic mountains of the Teton Range.

A "bucket list" destination for many photographers, hikers, and adventures who enjoy the outdoors.
